Connecting mem-models with classical theories

A family of mem-models, including the mem-dashpots, mem-springs, and most recently, mem-inerters, is emerging as a new powerful way capturing complex nonlinear behaviors materials systems under various types dynamic loads involving different frequency, amplitude, loading histories (e.g., hysteresis). Under framework state-space representation hybrid dynamical systems, mem-springs may be formulated to effectively represent an inherent degradation material state. It shown in this study, for first time, how absement (time integral strain/displacement), signature state variable mem-spring, can connected with damage variable, key quantity continuum mechanics.
